The material covered in the lesson(s) this week helped me create an instructional presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint. Here is a bulleted list of the multimedia learning principles that I was following as I was creating my presentation. I have included a link to my instructional presentation below which is posted on YouTube.

  • Multimedia principle: I included a simplified version of the tips in text form with a picture that is related to that tip.
  • Modality principle: My graphics (images each slide) have narration over them that help people understand the ideas better.
  • Coherence principle: The extraneous material that I excluded was text that I could have included about why each tip is helpful (which I mentioned in my narration instead).
  • Personalization principle: My instructional presentation was explained in a conversational style as I spoke to the viewers while giving them my personal tips on the topic.
  • Embodiment principle: I decided to not use my camera to film myself speaking because people will learn better by focusing on my commentary while looking at the slides.
  • Animation principle: Instead of including fancy animations between or on the slides I kept it simple by including just a title for that tip and a still image to accompany it.
